Within the parameters of western visual culture that epitomises site and seeing as intelligibility, lived space is mostly confronted to the imperative of transparency as a tool to creating a homogenised abstract space necessary to conceive the space as power structure.

In Mario Afonso’s installation, the mental utopia projected onto the inaccessible object comes forth as a clear sign. If obscurity there is, it is not to be looked for in the solid untransparent wall. This installation is not about the object hidden behind the wall. What it brings out is a representational space of our intimacy, filled with imaginary that need answer to no rules of cohesion and transparency.
