The Library of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, brings together a bibliographic collection of particular importance such as the catalogs of major national exhibitions from the end of the nineteenth century to our days, the documentation about the awards and the catalogs of the exhibitions sponsored by SPN / SNI, catalogs of the Biennials of Venice and São Paulo, and the periodics of reference, as the Occidente, Brotéria, Panorama and Colóquio Artes.

In its catalog  can also be found works of the main authors of national art historiography from the twentieth century, as Virgílio Correia, Joaquim Vasconcelos, Fernando Pamplona, Diogo de Macedo, Adriano de Gusmão, José Augusto França, among others. Recent donations came to enrich this bibliographic and documentary heritage.

Located in an area of the building where the memory of the ancient convent is most visible, both in the vaulted ceilings and in the persistence of some areas covered with old lioz stone slabs, the library's collection includes:

The extensive catalogue of the museum publications and external productions and co-productions, as well as catalogues of the main national exhibitions from the late 19th century to the present day, essential bibliography for studying the evolution of Portuguese art and exhibitions.

 Portuguese Art Historiography, a fundamental resource for understanding the development of artistic movements, learning about the most influential artists, and identifying the crucial moments in the history of art in Portugal.

Art Theory, a collection of texts and academic works that provide a theoretical and critical approach, essential for the understanding and interpretation of art.

Museology,  specialized literature on the practices of museology, curatorship, and the role of museums in society.

Reference Periodicals, that have shaped the field of art history and offer historical context and academic articles by renowned art historians and critics.
