The exhibition
"Narrative of a collection - Portuguese Art in the Collection of the Secretary of State for Culture (1960-1990)" discloses the areas of the yearned
expansion of Museu do Chiado. Moreover, underlines the exceptional quality of
this important collection, essential for any reflection on Portuguese art in
the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, critical years of our artistic production,
characterized by the rupture with academicism and the access to international
artistic languages cutting edge.
The exhibition shows the most important works of this collection, acquired over
several decades by government entities with responsabilities in the cultural
area, an initiative of the portuguese State in which it plays an important
patronage role in the context of visual arts.
"Narrative of a Collection" presents itself as a first approach to
the collection SEC - rich enough to allow multiple lines of work, new
perspectives, unedited dialogue. The new museum space was crucial to the
exhibition design and installation: the multitude of rooms with their different
dimensions made possible the relationship with the myriad of grammars and
techniques of the works, by installing in contiguous spaces, artistic languages
that are formally closer. The goal: to build a visual path that allows
the visitor to relate to each work, but simultaneously establish possible synapses
and dialogues between them.
