Artist biography

MÁRCIO VILELA
1978, Recife - Brazil

Lives and works in Lisbon
He holds a degree in photography from Escola Superior de Tecnologia de Tomar and a master's degree from the European Master of Fine Art Photography at IED Madrid.
In 2008 he was one of the seven artists selected for the prize Anteciparte. Two years after, he developed a two-year artistic residency at Carpe Diem Arte e Pesquisa, which resulted in the individual exhibition Mono, in 2012. In that same year he was selected for the Abre Alas 8 award, promoted by the gallery A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro. Still in 2012 he participated in an artistic residency on the Island of São Miguel, in Azores, invitation by Galeria Fonseca Macedo. From this residency resulted, in 2014, the Azores exhibition and the launch of an artist's book with the same name. In the same year, invited by the Museum of Modern Art Aloísio Magalhães, he performs an artistic residency in the city of Recife, with the aim of developing a new artwork on landscape and study of color. In 2015 he took part of the Creative Residencys of Refúgio do Pico, in São Miguel. In 2018 he was one of the artists invited to participate in the series Um.Artista, from Canal Arte1Brazil.
Also, in 2018 he presents the project Chromatic Study for the Blue in the National Museum of Brasilia.
Since 2007 he has been a Professor in the field of photography.
His work is represented in the Antonio Cachola Collection, National Museum of Brasilia, Museum of Modern Art Aloísio Magalhães and several private collections.
