From September 2026 to June 2027, MNAC presents Paths of Portuguese Art, a series of guided talks led by the Museum’s curatorial and research team. Drawing on works from the collection, each session offers an in-depth exploration of themes that reflect the diversity of contexts, movements, practices, and artistic languages that have shaped Portuguese art from the nineteenth century to the present day.

First Session

The inaugural session will focus on O Grupo do Leão (The Lion Group), a group portrait painted by Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro in 1885 for the Leão d’Ouro Brewery. The visit will be led by Maria de Aires Silveira, MNAC curator, and José Mendes, the conservator-restorer responsible for the conservation treatment currently being carried out on the painting, with the support of Fundação Millennium bcp.
